Day 10: T.G.I.A.F. + poet Katti Frederiksen

(Fri 29/6/2012)

That is, "Thank God it's almost Friday!"

- GRL language
- GRL history, ethnicity
- lunch
- Katti Frederiksen, GRL author and poet came to give us a talk. It was very interesting. Also interesting that she travels a lot abroad to read her poems, but the locals don't really care. Or so it seems since she has very few bookings in GRL.

I spent some time surfing to find return flights to Finland. Key words: HOPELESS. FRUSTRATING.

Later we had a so called "Finnish evening". This was our recipe: bake "pulla" (wheat buns), make "karjalan piirakka" (Karelian pirogs) and have fun! :)

Note to self: Remember Alice!

I've been doing quite a lot of blogg surfing recently and I've found a lot of inspiring and beautiful blogs. I like reading diary-like entries, but I'm mostly fascinated by different photo blogs. Maybe I'll make a list of them once I've established which I really like - like for a longer period of time :)

So. Just now I found this wonderful photo blog, and I want to share it with you. This particular entry is about Jessica/Silversaga having an "Alice in wonderland" theme party (I love theme parties!). The best pert is that it's from HERRÄNG (Sweden) where they have these legendary dance camps (I love dancing!), mostly for lindy hop dancers, but maybe even other rock n' swing dancers go there? My friends from Turku have been there, and if this is the result (dancing AND photographic inspiration), then I MUST go there next summer! Take a look at this beautiful blog called "Once upon a time"!

Summer adventures vol.3: Hanko (Finland)

A few days after I got home from Estonia I had to gather all my energy to go to the town of Hanko (Hangö in Swedish), the southernmost place in Finland. The town is known to be a summer town and very popular among people who like to sail. There's a strong majority of Swedish speaking Finns in Hanko.

This time the "hankoish" summer weather was not present (it was raining) and towards the evening I was getting nervous whether we would actually get the chance to attend the kayaking course we had signed up for...

We stayed at Hotelboat Hanko. The kayaking course was (Saturday & Sunday) quite heavy but a lot of fun! Two of us girls took part in it, and a few other friends came with us just to see the town of Hanko and attend "The opening of Hanko Casino", dresscode: coctail dresses mandatory;) So on Saturday evening we had dinner at Origo and then checked out the local night club, the Casino.

Here are a few photos of that adventure (the kayaking photos are in my mobile phone, and I hope to upload them later - naturally I couldn't take my big camera with me in the kayak!).

Rain, rain and more rain!

Getting cosy: hot tea, my National Geographic and some chocolate:)
